I must ask, at what cost? This is surely not the first time your paper has been used for a debate on the actions of the Inn, and if we may judge on past performance, it won’t be the last. How has the Inn actually helped our town? By paying a higher percent of taxes, which it helped to create? By offering employment to the town’s people?
Can Washington afford to plan on its future from those the Inn brings in from other areas to work here? What is the average amount of time these young people stay in the area? How much do they actually contribute to the local economy? With such a large turnover in employment, how will the Inn be able to properly run a larger version of itself?
What happens if they cannot run a larger enterprise? Will it be sold to a corporation with not a single care for Washington’s history, charm, future, etc.? If the Inn is allowed to increase in size, what will happen when the owners are tired of running things and retire; as they have no family to inherit the Inn, will it again follow the previously mentioned alternative?
