Her work as business editor earned numerous distinctions. Fauquier Business was cited by the Virginia Farm Bureau in 1990 as one of the best newspaper sections of its kind in the state. Ms. Bishopp has won six awards for news and feature writing and newspaper design from the Virginia Press Association.

A graduate in English from Mary Washington College, Ms. Bishopp has three children. Her son, Christopher, and daughter Cameron, both attended Wakefield School in Huntly. Her youngest daughter, Page, attends Fauquier High School.
