The supervisors decided to postpone for a month taking action on having a scale put in at the landfill on a temporary basis. Mr. McCarthy said that Page and Warren counties -had suggested the three counties join in having a scale put in each county on a temporary basis to weigh the trash that requires landfilling at each of the three counties that are considering joining a regional landfill. The cost for Rappahannock County would be approximately $12,000.
Hampton District representative Mike Massie said that was too much money to spend for a temporary scale. He suggested Mr. McCarthy find out what it would cost to have the scale come to Rappahannock last and actually purchase it.
Col. Bingham said the county should see if it would be possible to get a much less fancy scale on a temporary basis similar to those the state police move from place to place to weigh trucks.
Mr. McCarthy said the idea was to And out how much trash could be expected from each jurisdiction to try to determine the cost of operating a joint landfill. He said the county could not take part and simply choose a number to guarantee for Rappahannock’s share.
The supervisors voted to set a fee of $25 for the tradesmens’ certificates. Mr. Anderson and Mr. Massie voted against this fee.
