Chess tournaments, Latin competition (certamen) with other schools, trips to Williamsburg, and ski weekends provide additional spice and savor to overcome the routine of learning.
Above all, Wakefield is a school that satisfies the deepest parental instincts. Students willJRnd themselves in the company of teachers who love children and value their individuality. Parents feel assured that their children will learn in an environment that upholds traditional Christian values and honors the greatness of Western civilization and the classics, “the best that has been thought and said,” to use Matthew Arnold’s famous phrase. Sloth, disobedience, and disrespect will not be tolerated, and parents will not have to worry about such evils as sex education corrupting their children or secular humanism subverting the basic teachings of Christian families.
In short, I wish more people in Virginia and throughout the country knew of this school and its greatness. It is a model and a work of genius. In the current political debates about educational reform, someone in Washington should make a personal visit to Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly.
