The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met for a luncheon meeting at the home of Mrs. Edgar F. Puryear Jr. in Madison on Saturday, June 14.
Regent Mrs. Thomas L. Eastham opened the business meeting with welcoming members and guests and thanking the hostesses, Mrs. Puryear and Mrs. Philip Brewer.
The U.S. Flag Chairman, Mrs. Walter Clark, gave a few interesting comments on Lafayette. He spent a number of years in the United States and, when he returned to France, he took back with him a trunk of American soil to be spread over his grave when he died. President Andrew Jackson, in appreciation for Lafayette’s service to the United States, decreed that, when Lafayette died, the same honors that were awarded to George Washington when he died would be awarded to Lafayette. Also, an American flag flies over his grave in Paris.
The last report of the outgoing President General, Marie H. Yochim, was read in which she reviewed her three years as the Centennial President General and listing all the landmark celebrations of the United States during those years. Also, she was proud to note
