A tractor trailor took out a line crossing Route 1002 in Sperryville, breaking a power pole on U.S. 522 and causing Sperryville and points west to lose power for most of the day Tuesday.

Gary Charles Martin of New Holland, Pa., was driving a tractor trailer owned by Raven Division Inc. of Lancaster, Pa. traveling west on Route 1002 at 9:45a.m. There was a cable stretched across the road belonging to Adelphia that was not high enough for the trailor to clear.

Mr. Martin struck the cable with the top of his trailor, causing it to snap. The pressure broke a power pole beside U.S. 522 to which the cable line was also attached. The pole broke in two places shutting off power to most of the town of Sperryville and
