Former Fauquier head planner and current farmer Dick McNear told the members of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Association that the Disney proposal is a symptom of the development pressures Rappahannock County will face.
He added, “Rappahannock County, without question, is going to grow. How, when and where is what we can discuss.”
He said that the Disney America proposal comes because “Prince William County has been Hell bent to grow in any way shape or form.”He said that growth in Prince William started in the 50s and now that county “is trying to attract more growth to pay for the growth they already have and can’t afford to service...”
“Rappahannock County has yet to be thrown into the fray of what it takes to maintain some semblance of a rural environment,” Mr. McNear said. “We have to become much more pro-active. We need to put tax dollars at stake to do what needs to be done. Citizens must make the hard decision to trade some property rights to maintain the quality of life.”
