New Head
Hie Board of Directors of Wakefield Country Day School, Inc. at Huntly has appointed Malcolm Schantz as Interim Headmaster following the resignation of Pamela W. Lynn as Headmistress.
Mrs. Lynn and her late husband, William E. Lynn, founded the school in 1972. Following Mr. Lynn’s death in 1988, Mrs. Lynn served as interim headmistress until 1989 and again from 1991 until Feb. 1994 after the school was reincorporated as a nonprofit, tax-exempt membership corporation. a
Wakefield Country Day School, with its internationally recognized classical curriculum, has a growing student body in grades pre-K through 12th, and recently was formally recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization.
Increased fund raising, development and recruitment activites, together with growing administrative responsibilities led to Mrs. Lynn’s decision to step down. Mrs. Lynn indicated to the Board that she found it increasingly difficult to handle these duties as head of the school while maintaining a full teaching load.
The Board accepted Mrs. Lynn’s resignation with regret, citing her dedication and many contributions to the School in its 22 year history. Mrs. Lynn will continue to teach and act as head of the drama department, and will retain her seat on Wakefield County Day School’s Board of Directors. As such, she will help maintain the school’s rigorous curriculum and historic traditions of academic excellence.
Both Mrs. Lynn and the Board are very pleased with the selection 3 of Malcolm Schantz as the Interim Headmaster. Mr. Schantz graduated from the United State Naval Academy at Annapolis with a Bachelor 1 of Science degree, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education fromBoston University.
He came to Wakefield Country Day School in the Fall of 1993 as a physics, computer science and mathematics teacher. In 1991 and 1992, he taught mathematics, chemistry - and physics in Fairfax County. Prior to that, he was a strategic planner in the Washington, D.C. office of EDO Corporation of Long Island, N. Y.
A twenty-six year veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Schantz retired in 1987 as a Captain. During his naval career, he specialized in underwater acoustics and sonar,- and was posted in London, Naples, mid Puerto Rico. During the Viet Nam war, he served in the Mekong Delta, and commanded two Pacific Fleet . frigates. Prior to his retirement, he * was stationed at the Pentagon.
Mr. Schantz is married to the former Sarah Taft Gates of Howell, , Michigan. Mrs. Schantz teaches Latin and Fren at Wakefield Country Day School. The Schantzs live; in Flint Hill, and have one son, John, who is a senior at the University of Arizona.

Planned
Belle Grove Plantation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation house museum located one mile south of Middletown will offer two traditional wool rug hooking workshops during the month of April.
A week day class will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays, April 5, 7,12,14 and 19. A Saturday class will be offered on from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 9,16,23 and 30.
