cheerleaders was to lead cheers,, ad the name implies, and I felt that the lack of participated by the group (for the second time this year at a J.V* game) was shameful.
Rappahannock High School does not send teams to District Championship Tournaments on a routine basis, and the Cheerleading Squad’s failure to support the team Thursday night indicated a lack of respect for this team and its accomplishments.
Fortunately, a pep bus full of students, as well as the Varsity team and many adult fans, did attend the gameand did cheer the J.V. on to a dramatic 1-point victory. The section of stands reserved for Rappan hannock supporters was packed*, energetic, vocal and inspriational to the athletes, who played their hearts out to defeat Brentsville for the first time in more than two years. “
Congratulations and thanks to Coach Gary Leake, the J.V. Panth-r era and the supporters, faculty and fans who have supported the team, through this exciting season.
If the School Board is still seeking ways to reduce next year’s school budget increase, they might want to discuss the need to fund a cheerleading squad that doesn’t lead cheers.

First of all, let me make it very clear from the start, I do not pass myself off as some sort of constitutional scholar, a legal expert, or any other kind of legal expert, or any other kind of legal commentator, for I am not even a lawyer. . ,
Secondly, I abhor these diatribes back and forth via “Letters to thq Editor” in newspapers, magazines^
etc., but in this case, I reluctantly! make the exception. ,"
What I feel constrained to in thfi{ case in particular, and in my life iix; general, is to attempt to make somer contributions to the art of being inf structive. Hence, I make my coni-I ments regarding Mr. WayneJ Murray’s letter in this space Feb.' 23, entitled “NRA Wrong” which apf peared to be well researched, and presented in a scholarly way. <■,{
At this point, I wish to make HJ very clear that I do not come dowjJ clearly on either side of this issue. «
This ambivalence notwithstanding, I raise the following questional; If, as Mr. Murray states, “The cod-; nection between keeping and bear-' ing arms and maintaining a civilian militia is therefore clear on the amendment’s face. No ‘right’ is guar? anteed beyond this context,” why; then, is this amendment included in the “Bill of Rights” in the first place, (and second no less) along with otheid “rights” specifically granted to thq people? (Oh by-the-way, I do not be-; Ueve that argument advanced by* some that the word “people” in this context means “the State,” because if that were true, the reference tq “...the right of people peaceably to assemble” in the first amendment would have no relevance, nor would! the word “people” in the tentti, amendment.
