The exhibition is also comprised of several interior studies which the artist describes as “empty spaces, (which) are as much self portraits as my reflection in the mirror.” These take on a psychological, and emotional feel which relates to the thought processes that Sturcken was undergoing during the time they were painted. These older works appear more formal and labored compaired to the more painterly technique that is evident in the later portrait studies.
