Let us pause in the day’s provocations to toast the most inconspicuous of all marks of punctation. Hail to the period! This humble and unassuming dot is ever ready to be put to work, but too many writers pass it by.
Not long ago, The Associated Press filed a story out of Cambridge, Ohio, on a murder case: “A neighbor found Mrs. Rocker, shot twice in the head and three times in the torso, in her van.”
