sale of purebred Angus cattle began at Ginger Hill Farm. Newbill Miller offered 41 lots that included bulls, cows and cows with calves by their sides. The sale brought in more than $200,000, and animals from Ginger Hill have left for more than 20 states.
Mr. Miller reported he was “very pleased” with the results of the sale. He noted that many of the bulls went to a commercial herd in Montana where cattle have to be able to survive in high altitude.
Probably the most ambitious of the weekend’s activities was Heidi Eastham’s Ben Venue Farm Kite Festival. The winds were light to non-existent and the crowd was smaller than expected. Rain threatened but never got serious, and those who came, particularly Rappahannock families with small children, had a good time.
