The junior varsity girls’ basketball team at RCHS has started off the new season with two out of three wins during the first week of school.
Their first game, against Central the first day of school, was a disaster. They were defeated 50-11. However, they came back to win over Manassas Park last Thursday, 19-10. The leading scorer was Holly Gangel with 10 points. Coach Emily Wingate said, “It was a good team effort and everyone did well.”
The girls also won their game against Luray on Monday night, defeating them 29-21. Dawn Havstad was the leading scorer with eight points and eight rebounds. Sara Gentry had six points and Nerissa Roberts had three. Coach Wingate said that Nerissa also made some crucial steals during the game.
The varsity team has won one game so far. They defeated Manassas Park 42 to 39 last Thursday. Coach Laura Conklin called the Rappahannock News with the good news first thing Friday morning. It was a badly needed win since the
