Commissioner Meissner added, “There is an attractive and relatively simple alternative to the green card: apply for naturalization. Become a citizen,” she said, “and never have to worry about renewing your green card again.”
INS advises that those permanent resident aliens who are holding an 1-151 green card issued prior to 1979 and who wish to continue inaintaining a valid green card should apiply for a new card by filling a complete INS Form 1-90, along with proper documentation, and a $75 fee at the local INS office. Applicants who cannot, afford the, $75 fee may request a waiver, and elderly and disabled persons unable to travel to an INS office many ask for special assistance.
