The Virginia Association of Biological Fanners, in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumers Services, is currently updating listings for the 1995-96 edition of Smart Foods for a Sound Planet, A Virginia Compendium of Earth Friendly Food Resources. The purpose ^of the guide is to promote sustainable agriculture by connecting farmers and producers who use organic and certain other environmentally-friendly growing practices with distributors, businesses, and consumers. It will list farms by county and locate then by regions of the state with a cross reference by crops. The guide also will list grocers and markets that sell environmentally-friendly products, restaurants that use them, and businesses and organizations that support the concepts of sustainable agriculture. ,

Farmers and others who produce fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry, herbs, flowers, plants or condiments using sustainable methods may list their products in the guide.
