To the Editor:
An item in the Nov. 16 Rappahannock News which was unfortunately buried in fine print on p. A5, noted that I had received two writein votes for Congressman in the 10th Congressional District election.
Now that the results are in, I would like to thank my constituents for their unflagging support, which enabled me to win such a decisive victory over Marion Sharp who was repoted in the same fine print to have had one write-in vote. In the aftermath of the Disney debacle, it should be noted, Mickey Mouse, that perennial write-in, didn’t even make it to the playing field, much less to the score board.
My candidacy, which I had not foreseen, and the closely fought election itself, came so quickly that I never got to prepare a campaign platform. *To repair this omission, I wish to assure my constituency that, had I been elected, I would have stood four-square on the following planks:
• Meaningful campaign finance reform.
• Single-payer health care for all Americans.
• Significant defense reductions to reflect changes following the end of the cold war.
• Requiring every member of Congress—House and Senate—to complete his or her own tax return without assistance, followed by an IRS audit.
• Abolition of the death penalty, except for certain people of whom I keep a little list.
• Fiscal responsibility and deficiet reductions.
