would cut Route 1002 in Sperryville at the bridge leaving two dead-end sections. Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete" Estes consulted his constituents when this route was first proposed and reported they were evenly divided on whether they favored or opposed this bypass plan.
The study notes that this plan is “one al- n ternative.”
Traffic volume counts provided with the study indicate that U.S. 211 just east of the. Gid Brown Hollow Road is the most heavily traveled section of county road with a 1992 traffic count of 5,700, and the section of this road that bypasses Washington is the second most heavily traveled with 5,500. The projection for. traffic in 2010 shows traffic at Gid Brown Hollow at 10*460 and the Washington bypass at 13,070.
Further east on U.S. 211, just past Ben Venue, traffic was measured in 1992 at 3,500 and is projected to increase to 9,060. Interestingly, the traffic was also measured in 198687, and at that time it was 4,840 on that section, indicating a lower count in 1992. All other ' sections of road in the county for which both
