Sheriff John Henry Woodward reported a number of unusual crimes in the past week. Two “coffeewood” trees were stolen, one from a farm near Castleton and the 'other from a farm near Huntly.

On Sunday afternoon two cases of wine were taken from a car trunk shortly after the owner had bought them at Grey Ghost Vineyard. *

Three Christmas trees were cut and taken from Spring Hill Tree Farm in Gid Brown Hollow, Sheriff Woodward reported, but the thieves only got away with two because one tree fell off the truck.

Stereo equipment was stolen from a house near Sperryville but recovered when it was spotted under the bridge near the Sperryville Rescue Squad building.

Sheriff Woodward also reported that Fred Singleton Sr. of Manassas had been released from the Fauquier Hospital. The Sheriff’s Department, Game Department and Castleton and Amissville rescue squads were called in to perform a rescue earlier this month when Mr. Singleton fell out of a tree while trying to attach a tree stand for hunting on the Wood farm in Harris Hollow. The sheriff reported Mr. Singleton had a broken nose and hip from the 20-foot fall and had to be carried out. „
