It started with subzero temperatures and threatened fuel problems in January and before it was over, the winter of 1993-94 had dealt a crippling blow to Virginia with disastrous ice storms/in February and March.
Thousands of trees toppled on highways and power lines, bringing transportation to a standstill and leaving thousands of Virginians stranded at home without power or heat for up to a week in some areas.
If current long range perdictions, become a reality, the upcoming winter could be just as treacherous. The National Weather Service is calling for below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation this winter.
