The girls’ varsity volleyball team is still looking for its first victory while the J.V. boasts a two win one loss record.
In matches during the past week, both squads lost to Strasburg on Thursday. The J.V. was blown out in the first game 15 to 1, but rallied in the second game to come close, losing 15 to 12.
The varsity team lost both games by identical 15 to 5 scores.
Both teams did better against Stonewall Jackson Monday evening. The J.V. duplicated Strasburg’s effort Thursday, winning the first game 15 to 1.
Stonewall rallied to make the second J.V. game more of a contest. The Panthers won that game 15 to 12.
The varsity squad trailed throughout the first game and lost 15 to 6. In the second game the Panthers took an early 2 to 0 lead and then fell behind. They managed a tie at 7 points and took a 12 to 8 lead before losing 15 to 12.
J.V. Coach Liz Hollie said her team is “pretty good so far. We’re pulling together more.
She said, “I think they’re pretty solid. The 9th and 10th graders are showing leadership.”
Varsity Coach Laura Conklin said, “There’s been a lot of improvement since the first day of practice. They need to learn to play better! at net. As the season progresses, they will continue to get stronger.
