I heir team, coached by Earl Mills but started by Carl Payne, defeated Louisa in the district tournament. The sectional tournament was played against three others teams, and Culpeper beat Lynchburg and the Huguenots.
The state tournament took place last weekend in Mathews, Va., which hosted four teams: Culpeper, McLean, Olive Branch and Honaker. The Culpeper team lost the first game to McLean, 15-14, but defeated Olive Branch 12-8. After a 10-minute break, and playing in 100-degree heat, Culpeper, fell to Honaker, 14-4.
Katy and Julie are both outfielders, but Katy is also a pitcher. She pitched the winning game against Olive Branch in the state tournament.
