Mr. Bruce has been charged in Culpeper County with the theft of the firearm, and that case is yet to be heard in court. His sentencing in Rappahannock County Circuit Court will take place on Oct. 20.
Bruce was convicted of grand larceny and breaking and entering in 1975.
Mr. Luke warned Mr. Bruce that if more convictions than he already knows about show up on his pre-sentencing report, then the Commonwealth will recommend to the court that Mr. Bruce be sentenced to serve the sentence ragge mid-point as calculated under the Virginia sentencing guidelines. He was also ordered to report to the jail for a DNA test.
