The latest VDOT proposal for a Spcrryville is an improvement over an earlier four-lane version that would have turned Route 1002 into two dead-end roads. It is also an improvement over an alignment that appeared on orte of the Kellerco maps, that showed the bypass lined up with Route 231, rather than U.S. 522.
Now it is time for the people of Spcrryville to be heard, but they are not the only county residents with a stake in the eventual decision.
Many county residents travel through Spcrry ville on their way to Washington, Flint Hill, Amissville, Warrenton, Culpeper or Front Royal. The Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission members should consider their views also.
However, they do not need to consider the view s of truckers and others who would use Rappahannock County as a short cut from one place outside the county to another place outside the county. VDOT is paying plenty of attention to those people.
In the meantime the news that VDOT is willing to make improvements to the current intersection whether the bypass is built or not is indeed welcome.
