Performances of The Nutcracker ballet also went on as scheduled at The Theatre in Washington. Parking on Gay Street was at a [premium for the Friday and Saturday night performances and the Sunday matinee.
Friday night's performance was enlivened when portions of the backdrop fell over, fortunately missing Anne Marie Soldo, who was dancing solo on the stage playing the part of Clara. The mouse army behind the scenes was blamed for the mishap. Then following the intermission, the stage crew had problems getting ihe sound system working, but the second act eventually came off with several county youngsters dancing their roles.
Friday night also brought tilelighting of the town tree on the Courthouse lawn. The Rev. John Pendleton of Promise Land Baptist Church led with a prayer and the church choir led the crowd in singing.
