The transport is a 1995 GMC 10wheeler with a Caterpillar dieselengine and an automatic transmission. A custom-built body allows quick and easy loading and unloading of the tractor. Radios have been installed in the transport that will allow communication with the county dispatcher as well as other Department of Forestry units throughout the state of Virginia. A new Husquavana 55 chain saw is also part of the unit.
The Department of Forestry is pleased to be able to provide this service to Rappahannock Countv. Hopefully, with good fire prevention techniques, the number of forest fires can be kept to a minimum, and the ones that do occur can be kept small with the aid of this new equipment.
