Sixty Democrats crowded the Court House at noon on Saturday, Dec. 9, to reconstitute the Rappahannock County Democratic Committee and to elect new officers for two-year terms.
This was a record meeting in the memory of active Democrats. Fiftynine people had registered to be elected and, following the election, four additional members who had not filed were elected to the committee.
The new Rappahannock County Democratic Committee elected former vice-chair Franklin Schmidt of Woodville chairman in the only contested election, replacing resigning former Chairman Kent Reeve of Washington. Margaret White of Sperryville, also nominated for the office, lost to Mr. Schmidt. Other officers running uncontested were elected by acclamation: Bruce Sloane of Sperryville, vice-chair; Rachael Grimsley of Flint Hill, secretary; and
