The Virginia Department of Forestry recently purchased a new bulldozer/fire-plow unit, complete with a new transport, to be used for forest fire suppression and forest management work in Rappahannock County. This unit will be stationed at the VDOT headquarters in Washington.
The tractor is a John Deere 450GLT, specially equipped for firefighting, with a blade that, in addition to angling and tilting, transforms into a V-blade for pushing fire lines through thick brush. The tractor also has long tracks to make it more stable on mountain sides and to lessen the danger of getting stuck in swampy areas.
