The planners discussed the issue of the dump being used for old appliances in Chester Gap. The Fredericksburg Free Lance Star had included a photograph of the site in a two-part story on threats to the Rappahannock River.
County Administrator John McCarthy said the Fredericksburg-based Friends of the Rappahannock River is willing to lend manpower to help clean up the mess. He said the owner of the property does not feel responsible for the dumping that has gone on there. The county would help with the cleanup effort by allowing the junk to be put in the landfill, he said. “The gears are turning,” he added.
The planners agreed to hold the public forum on farming, tourism, jobs and business in February. The meeting was originally scheduled for December, but it was canceled because of bad weather. The new date is Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the Amissville Fire Hall.
