To the Editor:

On Friday, Nov. 17, I called our U.S. Sen. Chuck Robb’s office to decry the lies and half truths that the Democrats were putting out regarding the Republican balanced budget bill(s).

Specifically, I was concerned by the Democrat-inspired news reports that the Republican bill(s) would slash Medicare (rather than correctly reporting that spending per covered person would increase at twice the rate of inflation); and would reduce spending on school programs, again rather than truthfully reporting that the republican plan would increase spending more than the Democrat plan.

The staffer that 1 spoke with mouthed the tired old “tax breads for the rich” Democrat defense at which time I asked about the $500 tax credit per child part of the Republican plan. This Sen. Robb staff person told me
