encountered this phenomenon recently when she volunteered some of her free time toward patient care. During her first assignment, she was surprised to be reunited with a great aunt she hadn’t seen in years.
Then there’s John Vizzuto, a volunteer who brought Thanksgiving dinner to share with a patient and his wife. Mr. Vizzuto also serves as their family mechanic and has made it his personal mission to repair everything in their house.
Every day we see people who are willing to go more than the extra mile. Robin Herr travels all the way from Harrisonburg to give a Rappahannock patient a haircut. Deanna Blankinship of Orange logged a few extra miles on her patient’s birthday so he could celebrate with his favorite barbecue. And one recent Saturday, a volunteer from Hospice Support of Fauquier treated her patient to a 300 mile-sightseeing trip through the Shehandoah.
