If you had walked early Monday evening into the palatial, chandelier-lit lobby of the Mayflower Hotel in Washington ' D.C., you would have found Jim Clark in a side room.
He would have been standing in front of his exhibit, surrounded by women in sequined gowns and men in tuxedos. And he would have been very, very happy.
“I love being here,” he told some hometown visitors. “You wouldn’t believe some of the conversations we (students) have had here — off-the-wall, crazy conversations you would never have in Rappahannock.”

Much of the five days Jim spent in Washington was dedicated to interacting with the judges.
