With increasing partisanship the legislature has gotten considerably more argumentative and its increasingly controversial nature has probably increased interest in journalistic reports devoted to covering the Assembly.
Yet that is purely relative. Despite all the ink and air time given the great stalemated budget negotiations of 1996, I would dare say that I could walk down nearly any street in any Virginia city, county or town and ask the first ten people to give me a summary of the final outcome of those negotiations and i would get only blank stares in return.
What the legislature does has an effect on every citizen of the Commonwealth so it follows that what it does is of high importance.
