But gone are the days when I had to stay until the final gavel was pounded and go away from Richmond with a pretty good idea of the contents of •every bill of any significance that had passed.
Now I am much more representative of the great majority of my fellow Virginians. Sometime after July 1 when new laws become effective I will find one of those laws which I did not i know about suddenly applied to me in some fashion and I will react with surprise and, perhaps, other emotions.
In days when I was a journalist there would invariably be calls after July 1 from folks who had felt the; effects of new laws and wanted know why I had not written about' them while they were being debated*?
My invariable answer was "T did.”
