Success
To the Editor:
It was personally rewarding for me — and for many others in our Rappahannock community — to be involved in the March 2 benefit at the Washington Fire Hall.
Our hometown band, the Okays, have been there for friends and neighbors so many times in the past. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to repay the kindness.
So many people participated in this latest community success, story. Appreciation goes to. the Rappahannock News and Daphne Rhtchinson for publicizing the fund raiser. The stories in the newspaper brought an overwhelming response, both in donations for the auction and attendance at the dance.
Items for the auction were contributed by a true cross section of our ■community. The givers are too numerous to list by name, so thanks to you all.
The idea for the auction came from Howard Coon, and he was a marvelous auctioneer, ably assisted by Phil Drevas, John Blume and John Moyles.
Thanks go to those who made the chili dinners — Andy Clark, Karen , Hathaway, Christine Smith, Justine Rosenbaum and Patti Mullan — and to those who decorated the fire hall — Julie Coon, Nan Reddick and Peggy Schadler.
Thanks also to the gate keepers — Stella Dean Richards, Tom Wilkins and others who helped at the door — and the cleaner-uppers — Karen Hathaway, Peggy Schadler, Michael and Nancy Soule, Trish Drake, Brian Ross and the band.
