Mr. Shepherd emphatically stated, “This is just a survey. We will not come back and use it to penalize people some time later.”
He said that the environmental health team is careful to compile and report its findings in a generic, nonspecific way to disguise the identities of property owners and businesses.
“We don’t want to embarrass citizens in any way, or put them in jeopardy,” he continued. “Over the last ten years, we have had a number of inquiries. [This survey] is an idea whose time has come.”
Tbwn councilman Charles Thompkins, chairman of the Wastewater Survey Committee, agrees. “Some folks have been negative about this in the past,” he said in a recent interview.
