Rappahannock RoughRide Set

On Sept. 20, the first annual RoughRide Charity Bicycle tour will be held with 10, 25 and 32-mile courses over paved and unpaved roads. Registration forms are available at local businesses.

Republican rally planned

An old-fashioned Republican Rally and BBQ dinner will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. at Washington Volunteer Fire Department. For people who don’t want dinner, the rally program will begin around 3:45 p.m. All events other than the dinner are free. For information call Walter Longyear at 675-3679.

Sling Blade to be shown

The Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community (RAAC) will present the movie, “Sling Blade” at the Theatre in Washington, Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m.

Billy Bob Thornton won an Academy Award for the “Sling Blade” screenplay and also a nomination for Best Actor in the film.

Robert Duvall plays Thornton’s fanatically religious father^ country music superstar Dwight Yoakam, John Ritter and veteran Hollywood thespian J.T. Walsh also star in this harrowing drama. The Boston Globe calls this film “one of the ihost powerful and original American movies of the decade.”

Benefit yard sale set

The Amissville Ruritan Club will be holding a gigantic yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 27 starting at 10:30 a.m. to raise money for the Community Building Fund at Stuart Field. Bargains galore!

Puppet show planned

Puppets With Pizzazz presents Visiting Virginia and Punch and Judy on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock Library. The show is free and open to the public.

Family reunion planned

The Bailey-Woodward reunion will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Culpeper Assembly of God Church. “Bring a covered dish and enjoy the day,” said a spokesperson.
