Chris Sause and Megan Fairbrothers both broke records at Page County High School’s cross country course. Chris broke the 3.0 mile course with a time of 18:38 and Megan broke the girls’ record with a time of 23:24.
Rappahannock’s Cross Country Team overwhelmingly won their first meet on Sept. 3 at Page County with a score of 23 to 36 for the boys.
The 22 boys from Rappahannock ran against only five boys from Page County. Mark Williams came in second with a time of 18:44.
Other top scorers were Brady Wolfe, Ryland Pace and Christopher Dennis.
The 12 girls from Rappahannock ran unopposed. Megan Fairbrothers led the field with Laura Yowell, Emily Sims, Jessica Gheen and Carolyn Baumgardner finishing shortly behind her.
Team captains are Chris Sause, Jessica Gheen, Megan Fairbrothers, Chris Dennis and Carolyn Baumgardner, who were district, regional or All-State winners in 1996.
The team decided the goals for this school year, besides improving individual times, are for both teams to reach the state level.
In 1996 the Rappahannock team was second in the district and was fifth (boys) and sixth (girls) in the region. They did not advance to state level.
Three members of the team did participate at the state level, Chris Sause, Jessica Gheen and Meghan Fairbrothers, who was also, an All-State winner (scored in the top 15 in Virginia).
