All hunters must wear a blaze orange hat, blaze orange upper body clothing, or a large (at least 100 square inches) solid blaze orange patch at shoulder level. The material must be clearly visible from all directions. Hunter Education Certificates
With few exceptions, hunters must purchase and carry a hunting license. All hunters aged 12-15, and hunters 16 years or older who have never been issued a hunting license before, must present a hunter education certificate in order to purchase a hunting license.
The last hunter education class to be offered in this area will be taught by John Dodson on Dec. 15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Virginia Department of Transportation building in Culpeper on U.S. 15 South. There is no charge but you must preregister, call 543-2070.
Hunting Licenses
For the past several years, hunting license purchases throughout the state have been declining. State wildlife biologist Dan Lovelace attributes this trend to more restricted access to the limited land available.
Licensing fees vary depending on the age and residency of the hunter, the weapon(s) being used, the period of time covered, and whether or not the hunter is handicapped. Lifetime licenses are available for both juniors (under age 12) and adults. Special stamps or permits may also apply.
Individuals who hunt only on their own property do not need to purchase hunting licenses. Neither do their spouses, children
