They noted particularly stories on such issues as the impact of snow days, changes in attendance policy, the connection between junk- food and learning, the trend toward young people marrying earlier, upgrading of academic standards and alcohol use among teens.
The staff has numerous ideas for additions to the paper.
“Improving coverage and getting more students in. the paper is one thing we need to do,” said Stephanie Kestner, layout editor. “We can’t let our heads swell from getting this award. We need to use their critiques and work on those areas.”
“We should add more sports coverage,” added Caroline Baumgardner, public relations.
Rebecca Metcalfe, the advertising manager, said, “We’re going to add more features like the ‘man on the street’ in an effort to include more students — the ones you don’t always hear about — in the paper. We also want to put in more student artwork.”
