• The landfill report was made and it was noted that approval for closure of cells one and two has been approved, cell three is functioning efficiently and the plans for constructing cell four, per the county’s request, are being considered.
• In an update on the barking dog issue, Don Audette of Sperryville, did some checking on the Internet and provided the board with some interesting possible solutions to the problem.
One solution, which the board found interesting, involves a newly developed device which is installed in two places on the outside of a kennel and emits an ultrasonic sound which activates when dogs bark. The dogs hear it, although it’s undetectable to human ears, and they stop barking to listen to it. It has been used in kennels around the U.S. and seems to be effective and humane. McCarthy will talk to the animal shelter staff concerning thte device.
• McCarthy received a complaint on what was found to be an unsafe structure by Rappahannock Building Inspector Richie Burke. The structure is an unoccupied house on a property in Rappahannock Lakes owned
