There is no reason in the world why the public shouldn’t be allowed to debate local issues in plenty of time before any decisions are made. There is no reason in the world why the citizens of Rappahannock County can’t vote on these issues and the majority prevail, whether it’s road issues or anything else.
I’m willing to accept a decision, even one I don’t agree with, as long as it’s a majority vote. What I can’t accept is a few people sitting on a board dictating to the rest of the community, without any accountability.
Time and time again, people have turned out enmasse against proposals such as the four-laning on U.S. 211 and the Sperryville turn, only to see it approved unanimously by elected officials. What’s the point in going to the public meetings and voicing opinions, when the supervisors are just going to steam roll their own agenda anyway?
The arrogance and insensitivity of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors toward their own constituents is really appalling.
When will majority rule come to Rappahannock County?
