Chris Sause, in his , first year with the paper, said he believes the success they’ve had is due to, “the dedication of Mrs. Cumins and the staff. Everybody works after school, during school and even on weekends. They’re very dedicated.”
The staff also holds fund raising events to raise money for more equipment. They are aided in their efforts by the Friends of The Rapport.
Where do they go from here? Smoot says they’ll use the suggestions from the VHSL to incorporate additional features. Some of those they had already targeted and planned to add such as increased sports coverage and tackling more sensitive issues in depth.
Religion in the schools is a big issue now, she said, and challenging to cover since you have to make sure you get all sides of the issue.
The VHSL wrote, “The Rapport has an excellent opportunity to become in quick order one of the best scholastic newspapers in the state.” The staff says they’re committed to seeing that is does.
