soon expanded the store into a restaurant. Trying to serve healthy food at competitive prices was a challenge and after a good run the restaurant closed.
Later, she worked as an investment fund raiser for a local inventor where she gained experience in talking to groups of people. She also worked in a partnership with a local auctioneer.
Nicholson said she began to feel “burnt out” in about 1989 and asked her partner to buy her out so she could try something else.
In 1990, she faced the first obstacle life was to throw her way. Her daughter, Shana was severely injured in an automobile accident. She remains in a coma to this day. Nicholson said she had premonitions of the accident in a dream and it came true. She stayed in Charlottesville with her daughter for six months and then brought her home. She has cared for her ever since.
During the time she spent in Charlottesville with her daughter, Nicholson observed how stressful the physical therapy sessions seemed to be on her daughter. The monitors would go way up whenever the therapist worked on her.
It was also at that time that Nicholson met Jane Mullin and learned about laying on of hands and accompanying massage as a method of healing. Mullin agreed to work with Nicholson and her daughter. When she did work with her the monitors showed no stress, Nicholson said.
For Nicholson, it was a lifechanging event. She enrolled in school for massage therapy and learned about laying on of hands. She said she wanted to help others and by doing so help herself.
Just three years ago, life dealt her yet another devastating blow. She was diagnosed with breast cancer.
