China invaded Tibet in the early 1950s and found rich deposits of oil, coal, and other minerals in the mountains in the northeast in 1957. Large numbers of Chinese began to locate in Tibet and now most jobs and businesses are in the hands of the Chinese.
Lhasa is a Chinese city now with the Tibetans being squeezed into smaller and smaller enclaves. The Chinese government is locating hundreds of thousands of Han Chinese into Tibet and there are now more Chinese than Tibetans in Lhasa.
The signs on the buildings are in huge Chinese letters with small Chinese letters underneath. When young Tibetan children are old enough to attend school they are often taken from their parents and sent to China to be raised, so that they think of themselves as Chinese not Tibetan.
