The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality sampled groundwater at the abandoned Aileen facility near Flint Hill and drinking water at nearby domestic wells on July 13 and 14. The test results should determine if and to what extent a threat exists to the public health or environment.
The sampling included collecting groundwater from two monitoring wells at the. Aileen plant, from the well at the Flint Hill Pentecostal Church and from five wells at residences surrounding the property.
The level of contamination discovered will determine the type of clean up that the DEQ will recommend or if it even can be.
