The Washington, Va. Post Office hosted a special Postal Service booth at the Gay Street festivities on the Fourth of July. The highlight of this event was a special cancellation postmark created by local artist, Tanya Richey, depicting the village with the town’s name and the date of July 4, 1998.

If you missed the event, but would like to obtain the cancellation, all is not lost. You may submit a mail order request postmarked no later than 30 days after the event. Customers wishing to obtain a cancellation should affix stamps to any envelope or postcard, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness and tuck in the flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: Pictorial
