Hosted by Rev. Forrest Freeman and his wife Nancy, the evening event filled the church to capacity. David “Scratch” Clanagan, Bobby Glasker and the Bethel Choir played guitar and sang gospel music. Brooks, a fourth generation ordained minister, addressed the group for about 20 minutes, describing his philosophy that public service is the greatest calling and that, as he has benefited from society, it is his indebtedness to repay through service to his country.
Lillian Aylor of Sperryville, who coordinated the Bethel event, expressed delight at the evening’s success. “Cornell Brooks impressed not only those who never met him before, but reinvigorated the rest of us to work that much harder to see that he is elected.”
