Jimmy has new ideas that may considerably change Country Manor in the future. One idea is to build a simple campground next to the Hazel Mountain Fire Trail. He added, he would like to see the store grow so that it employs five full-time employees. He is optimistic about the Shenandoah Center for Mountain Crafts that Jerry Ochs is planning next to the Country Manor Store.
Jimmy, a University of Virginia graduate, joined the store full-time in 1982. He said Jlehfi., worked anywhere but at Country Manor. He added, that if the next generation joins the business, he would insist they gain experience by working elsewhere first.
“One thing I learned is whatever you undertake, think it through and don’t bite off more than you can chew," Jimmy said. He is married to the former Elizabeth Fannon, and they have two children: a 5-year-old daughter, Addie and a 2-year-old son, James E. III.
Natalie, also a UVA graduate, has two children: 12-yearold Sara and 7-year-old Emma.
The Swindlers purchased a shop in Chincoteague in 1983, which is now operated by Bobette. It is on the market to be sold. After its sale, she plans to move home and operate the Beech Spring Fruit Stand.
In the first weekend in October the Swindlers plan to celebrate their store’s 25th anniversary and in November they will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
