Visiting with James and Ricky Shaw at Shaw’s Service Station in Sperryville, Brooks again stressed the need “for government to be supportive of small businesses. One way he suggests this be accomplished is by offering small companies financial incentives to provide high tech training for their employees. He also stressed that better skilled employees are higher wage earners and add to the federal tax base. Rather than draining more from the budget, he said, such incentives would actually be a contributing factor to the economy.
Next stop was a reception held in Brooks’ honor at the Rappahannock Healing Arts Center in Sperryville. There he met with Lanise Waites, R.N. one of the practitioners at the facility. After taking a tour he discussed with Waites alternative medicines and issues related to third party insurance payments and the problems facing customers of health maintenance organizations. Brooks emphasized his belief that medical treatment should not be decided by actuaries and accountants, but rather by health care professionals.
