1995 Country Manor sent out three million catalogs.
Increases in postage rates and paper prices in the spring of 1995 made the catalog more costly and by spring 1998 the family decided to stop the catalog.
Over the years the family has overcome difficult obstacles that were impossible to foresee. Traffic through Sperryville is nothing like it used to be, said Jimmy. The connection of Interstate 66 to Interstate 81 decreased traffic from the Shenandoah National Park through Sperryville. Now travelers frequently stay on Skyline Drive until they reach Front Royal. Added to that, the past two autumns were ruined for business by rainy weekends.
The Swindlers coped with these difficulties by downsizing their business and planning new ventures with care. Country Manor employed 35 employees at its peak. Now they have cut their staff to three employees outside family members.
